Skylon Tower

For many Niagara Falls visitors, the most popular attraction is the Maid of the Mist, and with good reason.  The legendary vessel sails perilously close to the falls, providing riders with an unforgettable experience that often leaves them not only with fantastic photos and memories, but also with very wet clothing!  For those wanting to obtain a drier, but no less spectacular, view of Niagara Falls, a visit to the Skylon Tower, an observation tower overlooking both the American and Canadian waterfalls, may provide a more satisfying experience.

The Skylon Tower officially opened on October 6, 1965 after a construction period of almost a year and a half.  Topping out at 160 metres (520 feet) above ground and 236 metres (775 feet) above the bottom of Niagara Falls, the tower immediately dominated the Niagara Falls skyline and provided visitors with a new perspective of one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world.  Not surprisingly, it remains one of the most popular attractions in Niagara Falls to this day.

Aside from its amazing observation deck, one of the more popular features at the Skylon Tower is its Revolving Dining Room.  This lovely restaurant revolves 360 degrees around the tower each hour, providing diners with a fantastic panoramic view of both Niagara Falls and the Niagara Falls area.  The Skylon also has a 3D/4D movie theatre that is currently showing the feature Legends of Niagara Falls, which outlines the geological formation of the waterfall and takes viewers on a virtual Maid of the Mist ride (no need to worry about getting wet here!)  For families, the Skylon’s Family Fun Centre provides limitless entertainment with its numerous interactive rides and games.  Finally, shoppers will be pleased to know that the Skylon has many shops that sell Niagara Falls souvenirs, often for significant discounts!

If you’re looking for a must see and do in Niagara Falls that doesn’t require you to get completely soaked then a ride to the top of the Skylon Tower may be the perfect choice!

TIPS FOR VISITORS:  The Skylon Tower is located at 5200 Robinson Street in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.  Should you choose to drive there, keep in mind that parking in Niagara Falls is shockingly expensive and often impossible to come by (particularly during the summer months).  A much better way to get there, especially if you are visiting from Toronto, is to take Citysightseeing Niagara’s Niagara Falls tour.  A Niagara Falls tour that includes admission to the Skylon Tower costs only $90.39 for adults, $88.00 for seniors, and $57.00 for children (all prices include tax).  This tour picks up guests directly from the hotel so there is no need to worry about traffic and parking!  If you are not taking the tour, the Skylon’s observation deck is open from 9:00 AM until 11:00 PM during the winter months and 8:00 AM until 12:00 AM in the summer.  Admission to the observation deck costs $12.95 for adults and $7.55 for children (these prices do not include tax).
